Dammit, Merle Haggard dies, and you're telling me there's no cowboy hat emoji until Unicode 9.0?

just bought a Merle album for road tunes, taking it with me today. 79 is a good run considering Merle Haggard was himself. Thanks for the tunes Pancho (or Lefty) we’ll miss you.

Merle Haggard gave me the finger once.

He was staying at a hotel near my house, which is where musicians regularly stay when performing at the amphitheater in my town. His tour bus was in the parking lot across the street. The paint job on the bus replicated that of a Santa Fe Super Chief locomotive.

My girlfriend’s father is a big rail fan, and that was one of the coolest things I’d ever seen. I had no idea whose bus it was, just knew that I needed to take a picture of it. I parked my car, got out and ran over to the edge of the parking lot and took a couple of pics with my phone as an elderly gentleman was stepping out of the bus.

I walked back to my car, and turned to look once more to see the elderly gentleman holding a phone up, pretending to take a picture of me. Obviously I’d offended him, and I wanted to try to explain myself. I shouted, “Sir?! Sir?!” a few times, but he wasn’t having it. He put the phone away and extended a one-finger salute my direction. Well...guess that’s not happening.

I got back in the car, and continued on my way to work. I called my girlfriend to tell her about the grumpy old fellow, and she mentioned that it was probably Merle Haggard. I confirmed that by looking him (and his tour bus) up on Google when I got to work.
